6th year of pharmacy, Industry (research) stream
    Mélina GUILLON
My choice to enter the Industry stream was obvious from the beginning of my studies, as I was heading for a career in research and did not want to work in a hospital. So, I did my 4th year of study in Finland thanks to the erasmus program and it was a revelation. As I am in the Industry stream, I have the possibility to specialize during my 6th year of pharmacy, in the field that is close to my heart: neurosciences, by doing a research master in Helsinki, Finland. The next step is the PhD!

The School offers a thorough and early experience of research, based on an interdisciplinary training in the exact sciences. During the February school I was able to discover fields and meet absolutely extraordinary people! The very advanced teaching on exact sciences, the cohesion that comes from this stay (in Paris, moreover!), the warm atmosphere, the benevolence of the professors... allowed us to develop our reflection, interspersed with a few outings in Paris 😉 This experience reinforced my wish to continue in research, and especially to persevere in a double course of study. However, doing the 2 courses of study at the same time requires a real investment and a lot of work, passion is not enough, even if it is my driving force ;) And after more than 5 months of internships, I am ready to start a Master 2 in Biology and Health in Vascular and Metabolic Diseases! I can't wait to acquire new knowledge that is essential to continue in research, and above all to have my own project to work on! My advice to all students: never get discouraged, and when you have a dream, do everything to make it come true 😊 "

Doing an Erasmus will not only bring you the mastery of a new language, but it will make you learn a lot of things about yourself, about others, about life in general. The encounters, the travels, the new way of life, a new culture... All this can only bring positive things. Of course it is a challenge to go alone, in a new country, with a new language, but if you have the spirit for it and the thirst for adventure, go for it! The Erasmus experience teaches you to live life to the full, it makes you grow. The encounters you will make will be unforgettable, as well as following a new pedagogical way of working, although sometimes destabilizing, remains an interesting experience. I therefore recommend to anyone looking for new adventures to try the Erasmus experience, you will not regret it!

I found a unique training course in the PRNT Master's degree. Unique because of the quality of the teaching and the richness of the programme. As a novice in HSE and risk prevention, simply served by my scientific culture and my taste for understanding, I was able to acquire the knowledge and skills I was looking for: legislation, safety at work, risk prevention, operation of conventional and nuclear industries, environment, management... Unique for the rich complementarity between university and professional speakers. This is an essential aspect for a pragmatic training, which has largely contributed to my feeling quickly operational in my professional life. It was also an opportunity to share experiences in the field and to clarify our professional choices. Unique because of the double hat offered to those who integrate it: student and worker. The work-study program gave me the opportunity to pursue higher education while at the same time putting my first foot in the world of work. I was able to work as a safety engineer and then as a nuclear safety engineer at Areva TA in Cadarache (TechnicAtome). I was truly integrated into the company for two years, where I was able to acquire the know-how that I now value in my early career. Finally, unique for the atmosphere that reigns there: more than a simple university course, choosing the PRNT is choosing to enter a big family served by a benevolent and devoted team of supervisors, whose only objectives are your success and your development.

Encouraged by my superiors at the SPR, I was guided towards this course for several reasons: the reputation of the master's degree and its excellent reputation in the nuclear field; the work-study programme, which enabled me to earn a salary throughout the course; the programme's relevance to the job I wanted to do: technical manager in radiation protection. At present, I have a permanent contract at the SPR in Cadarache as a Technical Manager in Radiation Protection. On a day-to-day basis, I check the radiation protection documents and reference documents sent by the facilities, and I make calculations to size the biological protection used in the facilities. I act as a link between technicians, laboratory managers and people on the installations. My job involves a great deal of communication and listening to the various people involved in order to target the issues and adapt prevention in terms of radiation protection to each situation. At the IS-PRNT master's degree, I acquired solid knowledge of all the risks present on a nuclear site. The courses given in the master's degree show us a whole range of resources that can be used in companies. Thanks to my course in the PRNT master and my thesis, I was awarded the prize of the "Association des Techniques et des Sciences de la Radioprotection", and I received the 3rd prize "FEM ENERGIA 2019", which rewards women in the nuclear field. The IS-PRNT master's degree and these awards were an excellent calling card, I was hired very quickly at CEA. This training also allowed me to create a network of contacts, with lecturers and classmates who work in various companies.

It is in the middle of this fourth year of pharmacy that students have to choose their field of study. After many hesitations, I chose the pharmacy for several reasons. First of all, the closeness to the patient that one finds at the pharmacy counter is for me something essential that I want to keep in my future profession. Moreover, the fact of being attentive and at the service of my fellow man is very gratifying. And above all, the profession of pharmacist offers a freedom in the exercise of the profession (both in terms of location and application) that is very reassuring.

In the continuity of my pharmacy studies in the industrial field, I chose the master 2 Health Engineering option Pharmacokinetics during my last year. My interest in pharmacokinetics was born during my pharmaceutical studies through the courses but also the internships. My choice was also confirmed after many discussions and testimonies with academic and industrial professionals, who taught me the very important place of pharmacokinetics, and particularly of modelling, during the Research and Development of a drug in industry. The Master 2 has a very varied program, ranging from experimental pharmacokinetics to pharmacokinetic modeling, including learning the basics of coding. It allowed me to learn the basics of modeling, to practice on the most frequently used software in the pharmaceutical industry and to understand the therapeutic interest of modeling. All this theoretical knowledge was put into practice through workshops but especially during the six-month internship, where I worked on the pharmacokinetic modeling of a monoclonal antibody at Novartis. Once the master and the sixth year of pharmacy validated, I devoted myself to the writing of my thesis in connection with my master 2 subject, to continue thereafter on a PhD in modeling.
